Catholic Charities has three food pantries across the Diocese of Charlotte, in Asheville, Charlotte and Winston-Salem. Each food pantry provides walk-in assistance on a first-come, first-served basis during normal operating hours. The pantries operate on a client-choice model, through the principle of providing food with dignity. Clients select food they would like from a list of items in stock. Every pantry relies heavily on the work of volunteers to stock and distribute groceries on a weekly basis. First time clients complete a one-page application with basic demographic and household member information. Due to the overwhelming needs, we can only serve clients once a month. Charlotte: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 – 10 a.m.

Loaves & Fishes provides a week’s worth of nutritionally balanced groceries to individuals and families in a short-term crisis through a network of 20 emergency food pantries located throughout Mecklenburg County. Loaves & Fishes uses a Client Choice model which allows clients to select groceries their family is most likely to eat. Clients are able to choose a specified number of items in the areas of grains, proteins, vegetables, fruit, and dairy based on the size of the family. The number of choices is determined by a Registered Dietician to ensure that enough food is available to create three meals a day for a week. It is important to the dignity of our clients to feel they have some control and requires them to invest some time in the process. It also allows for greater interaction between clients and volunteers. In a short-term crisis, a week’s worth of groceries from Loaves & Fishes can help mean the difference between paying the rent, utilities, for medicine or feeding your family. To visit a Loaves & Fishes’ pantry you must have a referral. A referral can come from a church pastor, clergy member, medical provider, school counselor, or many of the human service agencies located in Mecklenburg County. The referring agency must call Loaves & Fishes on your behalf to make the referral. Loaves & Fishes provides assistance with groceries to be prepared in your home. We do not provide assistance with rent or utilities. You may receive a referral no more than once in 45 days. Loaves & Fishes Pantry @ Calvary United Methodist Church Hours of Operation: Tuesday: 10:00 – 1:00, Friday: 10:00 – 1:00

What We Need From You: Name, address, phone number. A count of how many people are in your household. A best guess of how many days of food you’ll need. A brief account of why you are in need (someone lost their job, got sick, etc.). We will ask you to sign a brief, simple declaration of need, something like this: “I understand that the Charlotte Calvary Church of the Nazarene food pantry exists to provide food assistance to those who really need help. By accepting help from the pantry I affirm that my household genuinely needs food assistance.â€_x009d_ NOTE: You must always show ID and sign our log book when picking up groceries.
